The Shot Gun and The Cement

The last day that Dill was in town he had the amazing idea of sneaking into the Radleys house and checking it out. We almost got cut and killed by Nathan Radley. Who came out running like a maniac with a shot gun. We rn away and hopped the fence that separated the school yard and their house. However Jeremy’s pants got cut with the fence so he had to take them off for him to get away. When he went back to get his pants he found them neatly folded on top of the fence.

The school year began again and I am in second grade now. I hate it, I cannot stand coming into school every day. Today as Jem and I walked home we noticed that the knothole had new things in it. At last we found a box with many things in it including two dolls that represent Jem and I and an old watch. When we went back to see the knothole again it was sealed with cement. When I asked Mr. Radley why the knothole was sealed, he said it was because the tree was dying.

Me, The Third Wheel

Since Dill and my brother Jeremy have developed a very strong relationship lately I decided to go and visit Miss Maudie Atkinson. Miss Maudie was childhood friends with Uncle Jimmy. She loves to bake and do gardening. She has told me many things but most importantly she has told me the truth about Boo Radley. She told me that Boo Radley was still alive! That all of the rumors about him were false; that he was a very polite and friendly as a child. However if he was not crazy as a child he should have gone crazy by now.

I found out that Dill and Jem got into a lot of trouble with Atticus. Supposedly they were intruding the Radleys property to leave a note for boo. They were inviting Boo Radley out for ice cream with them. My father caught them in the act and asked for them to stop disturbing the Radleys and to stop playing the game called “Boo Radley.”

The Knothole and The Radleys

One day after school I ran past the Radleys house as fast as I could. However something caught my eye by their house. I went back to check what I saw and there it was! It was a piece of tinfoil winking at me from a far. I walked to the tree to get a closer look inside the knothole. I found a piece of gum! I took it and ran home with it and ate it. The next day my brother and I passed by it again and there were two ancient pennies just laying there for us to take them. We do not know what to do with them.

When Dill came to visit us again over the summer we tried so many new things. We told him so many stories, but the first day was not the best. We were rolling in tires; this game has always been fun for us, but not today. My brother was upset with me so he pushed me with all of his strength and I rolled uncontrollably all the way to the Radleys front porch. I ran from it as fast as I could and never looked back. I heard someone laughing from inside of the house but I did not comment it to anyone. I was too scared to even grab the tire so we could keep playing.

My First Day of School

Today was my first day of first grade and it did not go well for me. My teacher is Miss Caroline; she is about 21 years old and brought a new way of teaching to the school. She does not like me at all because my father Atticus Finch taught me how read. Also, Calpurnia our cook taught me how to write and that angered my teacher Miss Caroline. I decided I do not want to go back to school but I am being forced to.

Today went terribly wrong for me. I tried to explain why Walter Cunningham Jr. could not take the money Miss Caroline offered to him. This got me into a humongous amount of trouble with Miss Caroline. She whipped me with a ruler in front of all of my classmates. I tried to make Walter eat the dirt on the floor because he got me into trouble. However my brother Jem invited him over for lunch so I got into more trouble at home.

Charles Baker “Dill” Harris

I met this new boy today, he’s name is Charles but we call him Dill. He is a pretty nice boy and loves to dare people to do extreme things. He only comes over the summer to Miss Rachel Haverford’s house. He is going to seven this year and he is very proud of knowing how to read. However his name is way too big for his height.

Dill, Jem and I became really good friends as soon as we met. We played games together all summer. He learned everything he needed to know about the Radley family. One day his curiosity kicked in and he wanted to make boo Radley come out of his house. Since my brother was too scared he dared him to run and touch the house.
